I bet not many kids would light up upon hearing that name, but if you want your kids to follow in your footsteps, getting the “Adventures in Archaeological Science Coloring Book” for Christmas is just the thing to do.

So what’s the Nobel Prize for Physics dude got to do with coloring books and archaeology?

As you should have surmised, it’s the Institute named after him that has published the coloring book that would teach kids to appreciate archaeological science in a fun way – coloring.

No matter that the rage is all about adult coloring books – we know that kids reign supreme in this arena. Truth be told, they don’t even need coloring books to color! Give them a pen/marker/crayon, and…et voila!

Anyhow, scientists at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History created this coloring book to make learning fun – and to reveal the “secrets” of archaeological science. (Do you know exactly what archaeological is?)

According to editor Dr. Christina Warinner, the inspiration for the book is a combination of her passion for digital illustration and her daughter. The final product, however, is a group effort – of scientists, researchers, and translators. The best part? They all did this for free AND the book is downloadable for free.

Isn’t that just beautiful? Science, art, learning – for everyone, for free.

At the moment, you can download English, German, Spanish, and Chinese versions. They’re working on at least 20 more.

I’ve downloaded the English one. What are you waiting for?
