When Classic Art Meets Pop Culture

Sacrilege? Not if you have a sense of humor. Or if you believe that art is subjective anyway.

This is what artist Dan Cretu has been doing – melding classic art with pop culture, the result of which are works that we cannot fail to recognize.

Cretu is not totally unknown, as he has had other projects that have gotten some traction in the past; in particular, his series of food sculptures. He used ordinary food items to create something totally new and perhaps unexpected, like this Christmas “greeting” made of oranges.

Going back to this classic art pop culture fusion…

Without looking at the caption – just a quick glance, please – can you tell who/what is in the image?

How about this, why don’t you caption it yourself?

Let’s look at a couple more (my favorites, actually). And, seriously, have a bit of fun and caption them, will you?
