Need a “Real Virtual” Girlfriend? There’s an App for That.

The Japanese have really done it! They have developed an app that can function as a real virtual girlfriend. Make sense of that as much as you can…

Called SELF, the app is all about – surprise! – AI.

AI has always been a source of fascination – both good and bad – for humans. For those who have found Siri lacking (uh, who hasn’t?), this app may very well be what you’ve been looking for. And more.

real virtual girlfriend

SELF features Ai Furuse, a female robot, who is not your ordinary virtual assistant. No, not the kind you find online to answer your emails and stuff.

Her conversation functionality has been given an upgrade, making her a suitable girlfriend for anyone who needs someone to talk to. Well, as close as you can get to a real virtual girlfriend for now.

What makes Ai Furuse closer to the real deal?

For one, the technology used gives her more realistic facial expressions which match the wider range of emotions she can “feel”. So I assume that if you annoy her…you know where that’s headed. Still want a girlfriend?

More than that, however, Ai has a relatively wide vocabulary – more than 30,000 words. These words were chosen to optimize her ability to carry out conversations that mimic real life. And, of course, she is programmed to be able to assess the state of the conversation and her partner so that she can respond appropriately – probably more than you can say about some people who can’t get their faces off their phones these days…

Here, watch Ai and tell us what you think.

If you want to have Ai, you can try her for free for three days. She will get to know you and learn things such as birthdays, etc. She’ll then use the information to make your conversations more real.

After three days, however, you’ll have to pay for cloud storage so that you can continue to have the real virtual girlfriend you’ve always wanted to have.

You know, she also just might be the perfect pal for anyone who needs company, don’t you think?
