‘Warcraft 2’ MAY Happen, But There Probably Won’t Be a US Release

warcraft 2

If you liked Warcraft the movie, then you were likely disappointed reading this post’s title. If you didn’t like it, then you’re probably saying “What a surprise!” [sarcastic font].

Whether you liked it or not, you can’t ignore numbers, so let’s look at how the movie performed. Metacritic gave it a 32 – generally unfavorable. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a dismal 4.2/10 on average.

Going into harder numbers, the movie had a budget of $160 million and grossed at $433 million worldwide. However, only $47 million of that was from the US.

Definitely no sequel coming, judging by the numbers.

But, there is always another story.

If Warcraft grossed $47 million in the US and $433 million worldwide, where did the rest come from?

How about $220 million in China – alone?

You see where this is going? That number is more than enough justification for producers to look at making Warcraft 2 even if the movie flopped in the US. These numbers suddenly remind us that there are viewers outside of the US that can heavily affect what Hollywood does, don’t they?

So, according to The Wrap, Warcraft 2 is likely to happen, but not a US release. However, the people involved may be totally different – which should not really come as a surprise.

For one, it is not clear what Duncan Jones’s role would be – if any. The American actors will probably be replaced by other talent as well. Indeed, who says the actors have to be from the US? If the movie is to be released mainly for the Chinese audience, guess where the talent will come from?

At this point, most of the details are conjecture, but we’ll find out soon enough if there will be a Warcraft 2 movie.

How do you feel about this?
