We REALLY Are Near to Having Star Trek Replicators
I know I was more hopeful than realistic in my last post about 3D printers, but this time, I am talking about 3D printers that actually print out food. You know, items that we bite into, chew, and swallow. Yummy, mouthwatering concoctions that make our tummies grumble.
Yes, 3D food printers are here, and they work. For realz.
So, let’s talk pizza. Who doesn’t like pizza?
Why pizza, you ask. That’s because one of the first 3D food printers has made pizza dough!
You can always go to your favorite pizza place, call for delivery, or make your own at home. But, making pizza from is not that easy – unless you buy pre-made dough, which makes a huge difference.
So, why not have someone – or something – make the best pizza dough for you?
Enter…FOODINI!
Yup. This sleek machine can “print” pizza dough for you. Even the sauce!
Stuff sci-fi is made of, isn’t it?
But, back to reality. We’re not quite there yet. While Foodini is being tagged as one of the first of 3D food printers, it doesn’t actually make food from scratch. You still have to put the ingredients in capsules (they come with the printer and are reusable). At the moment, users will have to do this themselves, but the company that makes Foodini plans on working with food manufacturers to create pre-made capsules.
Also, Foodini’s capabilities are still limited to printing “bases” and can’t actually cook food yet. Take the pizza for example. It prints the dough and the sauce, but you need to put it in the oven.
Still a very exciting proposition isn’t it?
