Covid-19 Has Reshaped our “Normal”

Has the Covid-19 pandemic caused you to reconsider what you think of as “normal?” Has the office that you once would have given anything not to have to drag yourself out of bed to go to suddenly become a long lost oasis? Are you one of the countless people all over the world seriously considering taking up remote work? If so, you are not alone.

As you reconsider your entire professional life, have you given any thought to what you do for a living? Are you satisfied with your career? If the answer is no, or even that you are not sure, you are also not alone. Millions of people in the US and around the world are reconsidering their career choices, as many people were not fortunate enough to remain employed during this global shutdown. Millions of people were laid off or furloughed until further notice. This gave many people plenty of time to reconsider the career they once were so sure about.

The tech industry should be a top potential landing spot for those considering a career switch. The sector is booming across all areas, from software engineering to digital marketing and Artificial Intelligence. There is plenty of job growth in tech, giving career switchers several golden opportunities to make the leap.

Today the leap into a new career in tech is much less daunting than it once was. The traditional educational routes—a four-year computer science or information technology degree or a two-year degree from a city, community, or technical college—are quickly becoming obsolete. Many tech hopefuls are learning the skills they need through intensive, short-term programs called coding bootcamps. These coding programs take the student from zero to hero in less than a year.

Many of the schools that host these bootcamps offer a variety of class formats. If you don’t have the time for a full-time, in-person class schedule, you can knock out a bootcamp in as little as ten weeks. Part-time evening classes, online and self-paced courses are also available.

Even better, many bootcamps provide an array of tuition financing options, including deferred tuition payments and income-sharing agreements, allowing the student to enroll and finish their bootcamp with a signed agreement that they’ll pay back tuition after landing their first programming job.

If you think a tech career sounds interesting, you may want to know where this career path could take you. These are some of the jobs in tech with the best career prospects:

Web Development

There are two sides two every website—the front end, also called the user experience (UX), and the back end, called the user interface (UI). Let’s take a look at what the programmers that build the UX/UI of websites do.

UX

Front End Web Developers are responsible for designing the part of the website that the user sees and interacts with. The graphics, video and written content were created and placed strategically to create an engaging experience for the user. The functions and buttons commonly found on websites—such as searchbars and the “Click Here to Request More Information” button— are also designed by Front End developers.

UI

Back End Web Developers are tasked with doing the programming that the website needs to run. This is called the user interface, and it runs in the background of every website, ensuring that the functions, buttons, and links designed by UX Developers work as they are supposed to.
