Computer Program Passes Turing Test; The Robots Are Coming!
Have you ever heard of Eugene Goostman? He’s a young boy from Ukraine – or is he, really?
The truth is that Eugene Goostman may very well be known as the Granddaddy of self-aware robots in the future. Remember this name, as it is the name of the first ever computer program to pass the Turing test, convincing humans that he is a 13-year-old boy from Ukraine.
In case you need a refresher, the Turing Test is the foundation of the philosophy of Artificial Intelligence. Devised by Alan Turing in 1950, the Turing Test has since then become the ultimate decision-maker as to whether or not a computer can “function” as a human in terms of thinking and conversing.
Even though technology has reached the point where even mobile operating systems are so advanced, countless programs have tried – and failed – to pass the Turing Test, but this time around, Eugene Goostman has made a name for himself (itself?).
Created by a Russia犀利士
n team, Eugene Goostman had to undergo the Test at the Royal Society in London. He convinced 33% of the judges that he was human, the first time ever in history.
How did Eugene Goostman feel after passing the Turing Test?
He said, “I feel about beating the turing test in quite convenient way. Nothing original.”
One cool kid computer program, isn’t it?
You can try conversing with Eugene here, but the server has been down for a while; or maybe, he actually likes his privacy and doesn’t want to engage all his fans right now.
