Finally, There’s a Space Invaders Board Game

Children of the 80s (and 90s), rejoice! After 40 years, we are finally going to see a Space Invaders board game. Yes, it has been that long. We are children no longer, at least numbers-wise, but there is no law that says board games are for kids, is there? More so, Space Invaders – in whatever shape or form – is good for all ages.

So, yeah. When we heard about some awesome people working on a Space Invader board game, we knew we had to spread the word.

You may or may not have existed when TAITO unleashed Space Invaders into the arcade world in June of 1978, but the chances are you spent a considerable time of your childhood with the iconic video game. Today, even those who haven’t actually experienced shooting aliens and fighting for their lives have been touched by the game. From t-shirts to mugs to cabinets – there is something in pop culture that references Space Invaders.

Such is the greatness fo this game that it is considered to be one of the most influential of all time.

612 Entertainment, LLC knows just how influential the game is, and they love it as much as we do. Combining that with their passion for board games, they’ve launched a Kickstarter project for a Space Invaders Board Game.

The board stays true to the visuals of the original game but adds elements of card and board games. It is played by 2-4 players who have to protect their moon base from, well, space invaders. Players do this by collecting intelligence about the enemy via their cannons, which they have to move across the board. There are 242 Action Cards, energy cards, and researchable technologies. The intelligence that players gather can be used to do research and enhance one’s abilities.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the game, TAITO has collaborated with the project founders for special perks. How do you like this?
