GIVING BACK
From the time of its identification in 1910 by Dr. James Herrick until the Civil Rights era of the 1960s and 70s, SCD received very little attention and even less funding for research. In 1967 there were an estimated 1,155 new cases of SCA [Sickle Cell Anemia], 1,206 of cystic fibrosis, 813 of muscular dystrophy, and 350 of phenylketonuria. Yet volunteer organizations raised $1.9 million for cystic fibrosis, $7.9 million for muscular dystrophy, but less than $100,000 for SCA. Geek Supply Co. uses the sale of its products to fund cash infusions directly into patients lives. Our donations are not limited to Sickle Cell Warriors, any individual with a chronic illness or rare disease can apply to receive a cash infusion from us. As our country struggles to retool it’s economy and rebound from the current recession, it’s usually the chronically ill and the disabled that’s left behind. We reckon a cash infusion in range of $300 – $1000 to help with anything: groceries, medical bills, schools supplies, etc – will extremely beneficial and even potentially life preserving for anyone in the throes of a chronic illness.
How Do We Give?
Each month, after the bills are paid – we take a cut of our earnings and place it directly in the hands of a patient in need. Patients can apply here to receive a cash infusion from us.
Aside from our donation, we work hand in hand with key organizations promoting awareness via the following channels;
