Hasbro’s The Black Series Princess Leia Action Figure Offends Parents
Well-known (and loved) brand Hasbro is under fire from parents who just discovered that The Black Series Princess Leia action figure is on display at a Target Store in Philadelphia. In the children’s section.
What’s wrong with that? Princess Leia is tough but sweet, right? She could very well be a great role model for children.
But Star Wars fans know that the Princess is not always portrayed in the white dress, pure lady look. In Return of the Jedi, strong-willed Leia infiltrated Jabba’s palace in an effort to free Han Solo from carbonite. Unfortunately, her plan failed, and she was caught, resulting in Jabba making her his slave.
And what do villains do with beautiful princesses turned slaves?
There are quite a lot of options, but Jabba made Leia wear a skimpy outfit, complete with chain around the neck.
Naturally, an action figure had to be made.
The result: The Black Series Princess Leia Action Figure.
Nothing wrong with this, right?
Parents don’t agree, though. As the story goes, a father brought his daughters to Target for birthday gifts. He was appalled to see the action figure in plain sight – in the children’s section. And when asked “Dad why does this doll have a chain around its neck?”, he had no answer…
The toy is labeled ages 4 and up. No judgment, but in my opinion, the age label should be higher. Heck, adults are the ones who love this figure!
Back to you: what do you think of this hullaballoo? Legit or overreaction?
