Play GameBoy Games on TV With RetroN Jr.

There is something to be said about handheld consoles (we honestly can’t live without mobile gaming; there, we said it), but there is also something about playing games on the big screen. With 4k TVs being more accessible to everyone these days, they are found in practically every living room. And, while PlayStations, XBoxes, and Nintendo Switches – together with their fare of amazingly high def graphics – are usually the devices connected to the TV, this tiny bundle of retro joy called RetroN Jr. will allow you to put good old GameBoy games up on the screen.

This includes titles from the several versions of the GameBoy handheld console we grew up with – GameBoy, GameBoy Color, and GameBoy Advance.

Thanks to Hyperkin, you can simply plug in any cartridge from those consoles to the RetroN Jr., and go on a retro gaming spree. Of course, you first have to ensure that the gadget is connected to your TV via the HDMI port. AND just in case you want to use an old school TV set for the feels, there are also composite connectors available.

What’s the magic that makes this baby work? An emulator, that’s what, and it will upscale your games to 720p so you can relive the past in higher definition.

According to IGN, the RetroN Jr. started off as a joke for April Fool’s way back in 2017. And while it is currently still in the development stage and not yet available, we’re happy that an April Fool’s joke is turning out to be a useful one.

Speaking of retro…how about this Space Invaders wall clock?
