Tamagotchi Is Back, and You Can Wear It On Your Wrist!

Tama-what? If you’re really young, you may be thinking I’m sputtering nonsense, but if you were a 90s kid, then you know what I’m on about. Get all nostalgic – in the 21st century – with the new Tamagotchi watch!

Sure, we all love the Apple Watch, or whatever smartwatch you may be sporting, but who wouldn’t want a Tamagotchi on their wrist?

The grandfather of all virtual pets, Tamagotchi got all kids way back crazed about having one. Probably especially those whose parents wouldn’t let them get a puppy dog.

The premise is simple – you have this little device where your virtual pet lives, and you need to take care of it. Feed it and clean up after it. Else, it withers away and dies. Just like a real pet.

Tamagotchi got lost in the digital and tech boom, what with all sorts of toys being marketed.

It did make a comeback some years ago, with a redesign and smaller packaging. You know, to cater to the changing preferences.

As we celebrate its 25th birthday, though, Bandai decided to give 90s peeps a treat. A brand new Tamagotchi smartwatch!

Bandai decided to give the modern generation a treat with a wearable version of the 90s hit toy. The watch stays true to the egg-shaped look and the concept. You get to have a virtual pet that you have to give lots of love and care to. Unlike the older generations, this pet will not die as easily (yeah, those oldies were so needy!).

And since it’s smart, you can use a mic and a touchscreen to give your pet the attention it needs. Don’t think the “smart” feature will do the nurturing for you, though. Like real life, you still have to put in some effort to keep your pet happy – and alive.

According to CNET:

For now, the Tamagotchi smartwatch will be sold by lottery — you can apply between June 17 and July 2, with the winners announced later in July. For everyone else, the wearable goes on sale Nov. 23. It’ll cost 7,480 yen (approximately $68), and you can also purchase additional “smart cards” for 1,100 yen (about $10) that you can insert into the smartwatch.

While we wait for its release, let us all enjoy this on-brand video teaser.
