The Film Reroll Podcast: Where Movies and RPG Meet
What keeps you busy when you’re on your commute to work or school (and back home)? Or when you’re going some place that involves a bit of a drive?
Some people read, some play games on their phones or tablets, and some watch videos. As much as I want to, I can’t do any of these because I get car sick. Really bad.
Thank goodness for podcasts (although I tend to fall asleep like a baby when in transit).
Side note…Did you know that “podcast” comes the iPod? Well, d’uh. You probably did.
But, did you know when the term “podcasting” was first used? According to the iPodder:
The term “podcasting” first appeared in an article by Ben Hammersly, the first one to use the term, in an issue of The Guardian. However, Adam Curry is believed to be the first person to actually come up with the idea of putting content into small files and releasing them episodically to the public. It was not until 2004 where the public really began to catch on, and big business started releasing their information over the internet via podcasts, and the public began to take hold of the idea.
Today, you can’t even count the number of podcasts in existence – good and bad alike.
There are the usual suspects (Freakonomics, This American Life, Radio Labs, etc.), but there are unknown gems in this realm – and I discovered on today.
The Film Reroll Podcast.
The premise of this podcast is so unusual that even if you aren’t normally into podcast, you’ll probably want to give it a go.
How about this?
A bunch of guys picks a movie and assign themselves a character. They then act out the movie, but with a twist – and here’s where things get hilarious. They go the RPG route and infuse the idea of “let the story go where it wants to go”.
They started out in December 2015 and have 12 episodes so far. Their very first is BTTF2, and boy…in their words, “It all goes horribly, horribly wrong.”
Other episodes include Raiders of the Lost Ark, Frozen (yes, you read that right), Speed, and Jaws.
C’mon. You can’t deny you want to check The Film Reroll Podcast out.
Here’s their website, where you can listen to the episodes directly. Or, you can subscribe via iTunes.
