We Might Soon Have “You’re My Only Hope” Hologram In Real Life

Every geek knows the iconic line by heart, where Princess Leia sends a message to Obi-Wan through a hologram of herself. While technology has progressed so much that we have the ability to create holograms, it hasn’t reached its peak just quite yet. Most holograms work in dark conditions, and they’re certainly not at sci-fi communication levels.

And yet, thanks to a young man being inspired strongly by Star Wars: A New Hope (Episode IV), we may be on the verge of a breakthrough in hologram technology.

Taylor Scott, who applied for his first patent at the tender age of 15, has built his own tech company IKIN. Based in San Diego, the company is making waves at CES 2021. Held yearly, the biggest tech show is going the virtual route from January 11 to January 14.

The news is that Taylor Scott and his team are going to meet with key people in the industry – both investors and sellers – in order to discuss their hologram plans.

The team is working on a smartphone accessory that can project the content from the device into 3D holograms. They aim to do so by using chemical polymer lens. Proprietary and patented, of course.

With this technology, we may be able to see content in 3D even in broad daylight!

It will certainly pave the way for holographic communications as we see them in our favorite shows and movies. Admiral Vance and Captain Saru?

Scott says, “People for years have thought of holographic communication as sort of idealized magical future and that is actually 2021”.

The plan is for IKIN to create its own holographic content, but they are thinking bigger than that. They hope to encourage mobile app developers to license their technology to offer users practically limitless applications using holograms.

Games (which IKIN already has), video calls, video content, virtual museums…the possibilities abound!

We don’t know about you, but this just made 2021 a tad better.
