We’re Going to Have LEGO Starry Night!

We’re Going to Have LEGO Starry Night!

LEGO Ideas is a veritable treasure trove for every LEGO fan, kid or AFOL. As a force of habit, we regularly pay it a visit – just because. One of the latest approved projects is the LEGO Starry Night kit, perhaps a piece of art that is recognized by everyone everywhere. I bet even a 5-year-old would know what it is!

Vincent Van Gogh painted Starry Night in 1889 while he was staying at the asylum of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. During his stay, he was given some leeway as compared to the other patients. Van Gogh was able to carry out his artistic pursuits and was provided his own studio. In spite of – or maybe because of – his bouts of depression, he was able to create wondrous works of art, Starry Night being one of them. Deep, dark colors. Strong, bold strokes. Dreamy. Surreal. Yet with a tinge of reality.

Something we can all relate to.

It just seems so right, then, that an official LEGO Starry Night kit be released.

Thanks to legotruman, we ARE getting the official kit. The project has received the required 10,000 votes – surprise, surprise! – so we are so looking forward to having this on our shelves.

Description:

The set re-imagines the original painting in a 3D scene, with strong emphasis on the artist’s iconic brush strokes and color choice.
Various techniques are used to reproduce van Gogh’s beautiful brush work.
Clips and brackets form the swirling cloud; plates stack to form the hillsides and bushes; curve parts build up to become the cypress tree. My favorite part is the inclined plate stack on the right, capturing the angled brush strokes within the moon-lit cloud.
In honor of the artist, a Vincent van Gogh minifigure is also included in the set. This also comes with:
  • A paint brush
  • Painting palette
  • Easel
  • “Starry Night” mini-painting on printed tile
