Who Wants a Real Life Tron Light Cycle?
Being one of the most iconic sci-fi films of our generation, Tron and its related “merchandise” always catches the attention of film lovers.
Remember the Glow Headphones we featured not so long ago? They are reminiscent of Tron, hence their appeal.
When it comes to the “want factor”, however, nothing beats the Tron Light Cycle; but it’s impossible to have one of those right?
Wrong.
You can own this real life Tron Light Cycle.
Well, it’s not exactly the same as the one we see in the movies, but it’s pretty darn close.
This real life Tron Light Cycle was built by American engineers in 2011, and they did a pretty good job.
The Light Cycle looks almost exactly like the movie versions, although you can’t expect it to go as fast. The real life Tron Light Cycle runs on electricity provided by lithium-ion batteries. Other (impressive) specs:
- a computer controlled throttle
- rebound and compression damping with spring-preload front suspension and rigid rear suspension
- front and rear hydraulic brakes
So how much is this beauty going to set you back? Well, it’s going to be auctioned off at Sotheby’s on May 2, so the exact amount is unknown, but expect to several tens of thousands of dollars. If you’ve got that kind of money, check it out.
