Your Computer Knows You More Than Your Family and Friends
The age of artificial intelligence is here! The robots are coming, so we need to be prepared!
Well, not quite, although it seems that it is a matter of when and not if. Don’t believe it?
There’s this study that shows that computing is right on track.
The study used computer models to predict the personality of people and compare them to the perception of family and friends. By mining data from Facebook – Likes, in particular – the computer models were closer to the mark. Only one’s spouse was better – by a small margin – than the computer.
Yes, computers know more about you than people in your close circle.
University of Cambridge and Stanford University researchers state that this study relied on pure data analysis and yet showed results on a human level – psychological traits in particular.
Lead researcher Wu Youyou of Cambridge’s Psychometrics Centre says:
“In the future, computers could be able to infer our psychological traits and react accordingly, leading to the emergence of emotionally-intelligent and socially skilled machines. In this context, the human-computer interactions depicted in science fiction films such as Her seem to be within our reach.”
What did I say about the robots are coming?
The next time you’re not sure about a friend or a potential partner, and you want to know more about his or her personality traits, you might want to get in touch with the researchers and see if they can give you a helping hand.
