Adidas Launches Shoes Made From Ocean Trash
Yesterday was World Oceans Day, a fitting day for Adidas to announce a new model: adidas x Parley. The shoe is already being dubbed by the brand as iconic and only a limited number is available.
The shoe is the result of a collaboration between the renowned brand and Parley for the Oceans, an initiative dedicated to cleaning up ocean trash, plastic in particular.
According to the Parley website, at least 40 million pounds of plastic has accumulated and is floating in the North Pacific Ocean. And then there are the other oceans. Can you imagine all that plastic and what it’s doing to marine life?
While we are all aware of the ocean trash problem, most of us probably don’t know the numbers; but looking at that figure above should urge everyone to help spread awareness of just how serious the problem is.
That’s why adidas x Parley was created.
It is made from Parley Ocean Plastic, which is “harvested” from the Maldives and illegal deep-sea gillnets retrieved by Parley for the Oceans’ partner organisation Sea Shepherd. Combined with Adidas’s technology, adidas x Parley is one unique, high-quality product which anyone (shoe enthusiast or not) would want to own.
Now, here’s even better news.
You can win one of the 50 pairs via an Instagram contest. Keep your eyes peeled for the instructions. In the meantime, here’s a video about the collaboration.
