altFOUND Is the New Geek Hangout Everyone Should Check Out

Just like the Starks have been saying Winter is coming for as long as anyone can remember, people have been saying that geeks will inherit the earth. But, just like the White Walkers coming with Winter (or Winter coming because of the White Walkers?), here’s one outspoken lady who says the geeks are here. The geeks have inherited the earth.

Meet Janina Gavankar, the owner and founder of altFOUND, a site where geeks can find all sorts of things – from the stylish to the eclectic.

You may recognize Janina from True Blood and Sleepy Hollow. She’s also voiced Amita in Far Cry 4. How’s that for geek cred?

Now, you might be thinking that there’s nothing new about a celebrity geek and a site for and about geeks. They’re all over the place – especially specialty shops catering to our kind.

Well, here’s something that makes me have the feeling that you’ll be an altFOUND regular.

The site features tons of geeky products, and while many of them are high-end, they don’t burn a hole in your pocket. You can still shout “Shut up and take my money!”, but you can do so more times than usual because you don’t have to spend so much on one item.

Here’s altFOUND’s mission, straight from the horse’s mouth.

“I’ve spent my life finding alternatives to mainstream fodder. Whether it’s the inexpensive version of pricey goods, the cultural reference that a mainstream movement doesn’t even know it’s quoting, or the life hack that makes me low-maintenance.”

Thank you very much, miss. We appreciate it.

Not only does altFOUND serve as an alternative to mainstream geek product sites (see what I did there?), it also serves up interesting conversations and hacks – just the kinds of things that get us hooked.

With her profile and mission, Janina is certainly adding cred to the “geek is cool” concept. In case you still need convincing, that is.

Visit altFOUND, and keep your eyes peeled for new stuff in the future.
