Chances are that living a healthier lifestyle is on the list. After all, this item makes it to 95 percent of lists worldwide. (Okay, I just made that up.)

What we know to be true, though, is that a lot of people have difficulty sticking to their resolutions. And when it comes to working out – whether it’s jogging, cycling, or weight lifting – it’s even more difficult.

Enter gamification.

This, let’s say phenomenon, is an effective way to get adults and children alike to get them to do things they don’t necessarily want to do. And that includes exercise.

But what if you can make money by walking your weight off? Digital currency, to be specific.

We’re not talking about Bitcoin, unfortunately, but it’s still worth something.

Called Sweatcoin, the app awards you – well, sweatcoins, which can be used to purchase goods, services, and experiences. Even better, you can use sweatcoins to give to partner charities of the company.

The whole setup is really simple.

You download the app. It tracks your steps using your GPS and your phone’s accelerometer, and these steps are converted into sweatcoins.

At the moment, you can earn 0.95 sweatcoins for every 1,000 steps.

One caveat: steps made on a treadmill aren’t counted, so if you want to earn make sweatcoins, you have to actually walk outside.

Sweatcoin has several membership tiers.

You can use the app for free (the membership is called “Mover”), but you are limited to earning 5 sweatcoins a day. That’s about 5,000 steps. No sweat, huh?

The next level is called “Shaker”, but you now have to pay 4.75 sweatcoins a month. You can, however, earn up to 10 sweatcoins a day.

Next, there’s “Quaker”, which costs 20 sweatcoins a month and allows you to earn up to 15 sweatcoins per day.

Last, we have the “Breaker”, which costs 30 sweatcoins a month and allows you to make up to 25 sweatcoins per day.
