Mattel Movies Coming Soon to a Theatre Near You
“Movies” may not be the first thing that comes to mind when Mattel comes up, but pretty soon, Mattel movies may very well be household names. The brand that is practically synonymous with Barbie and Ken has just announced a new section, “Mattel Films”.
The company is not killing its brands, thank goodness, but the new division is going to be creating Mattel movies based on its popular franchises such as He-Man, Hot Wheels, Thomas and Friends, and of course, Barbie.
Heading the division will be Robbie Brenner, the renowned Oscar-nominated producer. According to Brenner, “Generations of children around the world have grown up with deep emotional connections to Mattel’s brands and characters. There are so many stories to be told and so many imaginations to be captured by these iconic brands, and I look forward to working with Ynon and his team to do so.” (Ynon being Mattel’s chairman and CEO)
There are no concrete details about the first movies to come, but we’re definitely looking forward to the spin Mattel will be bringing to our favorite characters. (We mostly mean He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.)
