The Porsche Design BOOK ONE 2-in-1: When PC and Car Love Collide
Everyone’s raving about how the Porsche Design BOOK ONE 2-in-1 is grandstanding the Surface Book, and one look at Porche’s machine will tell you why.
Looking all sleek and shiny – the perfect gadget for someone who has a just-as-sleek-and-shiny car, the BOOK ONE was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress. It’s not all about looks, however.
The Porsche Design BOOK ONE 2-in-1 is high-end all the way. It’s got:
- Intel Core i7-7500U (4M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz)
- Intel HD Graphics 620, HDCP 2.2
- 16GB LPDDR3 SDRAM 1866 MHz
- Sharp 13.3-In IPS, QHD+ 3200×1800, LED backlight, 512GB SSD
- USB 3.1 Type C with Pen
I’m not sure if that equates to 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds, but that’s nice processing power (times two, as its dual core). The Porsche Design BOOK ONE also has a 5MP front-facing camera and weighs 3.9 pounds.
What truly impresses is its design, the hinge in particular. The screen is detachable from the keyboard, making it dual-purpose. Sure, there are other brands carrying similar models, but the BOOK ONE one ups them with a hinge that allows for a full 360-degree rotation. Not only that, but the device is only 15.9 mm when closed. What’s that about sleek again?
And, if you’re a tad worried about the effects of wear and tear (I hate, hate, hate, hate how repair centers love this term), Porsche describes the laptop as “German engineering skill meets the iconic aesthetics of the unmistakable lines of Porsche Design.” I guess that should make us rest easy.
Can’t wait to get your hands on this baby? Sorry, but you’ll have to. Good thing is that you won’t have to wait long. It’s due to ship on April 21, and you can pre-order one for $2,495 here.
