Short Film “RED” Shows a Rudolph You’ve Never Seen Before

Santa may have eight reindeer pulling his sleigh (based on ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas), but there is no reindeer more famous than Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer.

Dreamt up by Robert L. May as the character in a storybook given away by department store chain Montgomery Ward in 1939, Rudolph was the social outcast became a hero when a bad fog led Santa to seek him out to guide the sleigh – all thanks to his shiny nose.

(Aside: Can you name the eight reindeer?)

For many of us, Rudolph’s story ends there. A story of triumph. A once unknown, unwanted reindeer making it possible for Santa to make girls and boys happy on Christmas around the world in spite of the inclement weather. The social outcast becoming a sought-after playmate.

This short film titled RED gives us a glimpse into Rudolph’s life AFTER.

Made by Ritzy animation, RED is definitely not for the kids of today. It’s gritty. It’s raw. It’s not about the shy, playful Rudolph who just wanted to be friends with the popular guys.

From its makers:

‘RED’ is the horny tale of Rudolph as you’ve never seen him before.

Once a legend, hero, and leader of the pack, he now lives alone in a trailer on the outskirts of the North Pole.

After watching a documentary charting his fall from grace, a fired up Red decides to make the ultimate comeback and reclaim his spot as the King of Deers. Cue a ‘Rocky’ style montage and heaps of deer gags as we witness the sheer power and determination of the world’s most famous reindeer.

In a film bursting with testosterone, carrot smoothies, and 80’s inspired hoof-wear, ‘RED’ is the result of over 2 years of blood, sweat and beers.

No more needs to be said. Watch instead.
