The Red Cross Is Asking You to Donate for Sickle Cell Awareness
As we mentioned earlier this month, September is the time when people across the nation come together to spread awareness for sickle cell disease. Silent but painful and deadly.
Whether you know someone who is battling sickle cell disease or not, you can do your part and give what you can. And it doesn’t even have to be money.
The Red Cross is always open to blood donors, but this month, they are running a drive specifically for Sickle Cell Awareness Month. As they say, “Sickle Cell doesn’t stop for a pandemic. Your blood donation could help.”
As we all face our own struggles during this pandemic, sickle cell warriors continue to live their lives in and out of the hospital. Getting transfusions. Battling whatever complications their condition causes.
There is no widely used cure for sickle cell disease. However, the Red Cross supports one of the most critical sickle cell treatments of all – blood transfusions. For many patients, a close blood type match is essential and is found in donors of the same race or similar ethnicity.
Wherever you may be located, you can help real people with real needs. You can save lives. Schedule an appointment to donate blood to the Red Cross. You can make a difference in someone else’s life!
