US Military Soon to Use Real-Life Star Wars Speeder Bikes
We got you at “real-Life Star Wars speeder bikes”, didn’t we?
While speeder bikes are all too common throughout the galaxy, we don’t really get to see them here. Maybe one day, when we all have a Multipass, we just might have speeder bikes all over, too; but for now…
…for now, the US military is going to have its own real-life Star Wars speeder bikes. Or something like them at least.
Together with UK firm Malloy Aeronautics, the military has been working on hoverbikes that will serve as tactical reconnaissance vehicles. They will be big and powerful enough to carry supplies and troops.
Named Joint Tactical Aerial Resupply Vehicle (or JTARV – somehow I keep seeing JARVIS; I’ve got poor eyesight), the hoverbike is basically a life-sized quadcopter. That makes things even more interesting, doesn’t it? Drone enthusiasts who can’t get enough of quadcopters, listen up!
While it is still in the prototype stage, the military is hellbent on making the hoverbike a reality. D’oh.
We might be excited at just how cool the idea is (the future is here!), but this can actually save lives in the battlefield.
Here’s its maiden voyage.
In the meantime, we await Marty McFly’s hoverboard. For real.
