When “Modern” Movies are Given the VHS Look
If you’re wondering what in the world a “VHS” is, then I have to say you missed some interesting times. Yes, the 80s.
You see, back in the day, we didn’t have Netflix, torrenting, or even DVDs. It was good old VHS or Betamax. These formats relied on one of the most stable forms of storing data: magnetic tape. Thus, it was not uncommon for us to use a pen, or pencil, or even our fingers to rewind or fast words a VHS. I’m not pulling your leg.
It wasn’t fun back then, but it sure makes us feel nostalgic these days.
Anyhow, just like with Blu-rays today, one of the best things about VHS cassettes is the cover art. Naturally, the art style of the 80s is different from today’s. But remember, different doesn’t mean bad. In other words, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
So here’s this guy – Steelberg – who’s an awesome artist and a child of the 80s. His VHS covers of modern movies are then not a surprise. For sure, he watched his fair share of movies on VHS.
In an interview with Vehlinggo, Steelberg reflects on how he feels about the attention he’s suddenly getting…
The attention is just unreal. I’m actually blown away by how kind people are to a perfect stranger. I think “Man, there’s other people out there that like this stuff too? I’m not the only one?” That’s the best part: Knowing you have all these pals in the world that got your back. Yeah, a few of the directors actually have gotten in touch and that’s really the icing on the cake.
He shares his work on Instagram and has garnered quite a following. Check out some of his work below, and you’ll understand why everyone’s raving about him.
