Adidas Has a Robot That Will Weave Performance-Optimum Sneakers
Technology is a wonderful thing, and when our favorite brands tap into technology in new ways, it never ceases to amaze us. Adidas has been known for innovation and with STRUNG – a tech process involving a robot weaver – they are bound to outdo themselves.
According to a release, the brand’s goal is to constantly achieve optimum footwear performance. And this is why they have developed STRUNG.
This is why we developed STRUNG, an industry-first textile and creation process that allows us to input athlete data into the precision placement of each thread in any direction we choose. We can build and test different structures in the software before sending our chosen design to the STRUNG robot, which places each thread into a single composite with specific performance zones and properties.
With the right data input and a specific process, you can only imagine the results – sneakers that have a precise fit, support, and flexibility. All in one seamless fabric.
It really is ingenious – especially considering that the soles are 3D-printed, with the heel minimized for less weight and the outsole shaped for optimum grip.
For now, we only have a proof of concept – FUTURECRAFT.STRUNG, the first-ever data-driven footwear for a specific runner profile. The first actual shoe, which is planned for 2022, will be made for another runner profile. Where are they getting the data? Two “Adidas runners who are experts in the field.”
