In Japan, You Can Buy Beer From CG Salespeople Instead of Real People
Well, not really buy directly, but at least get enticed to buy beer.
You know how, when you go to supermarkets and malls, salespeople promote their wares? They’ll call out like hawkers, inviting shoppers to try their products. They’d approach you directly and even give free samples or offer free tastes.
Sometimes it’s fun – especially when the cheese cubes or sausage bits are good – but sometimes it’s annoying. But it’s hard to simply ignore the salespeople because, well, they’re people. And we don’t want to hurt their feelings.
The Japanese has solved that problem though. Instead of real people, they have CG salespeople selling beer to shoppers.
Then again, it might actually lure in more customers.

For how can you not stop and look at that?
Also, don’t think she’s there just to go through the gestures. She can actually give you free samples and – apparently – chat you up somehow.
It’s not surprising given that it’s in Japan. In fact, the practice of using CG salespeople has been in place for many years now. I guess it’s just now that it’s catching more attention thanks in part to social media.
If you have been obsessing about robots taking our place, maybe think about these CG salespeople first. It has begun.
