Sagas of the Northmen: A Viking Comic Anthology
Learning to love reading is the best thing that happened to me as a child, and while I wasn’t that much into comics – I preferred (prefer) book with longer text – I have learned to appreciate graphic novels in recent years. They’re shorter reads for when I don’t have much time. The good ones have awesome artwork that hold my eyes captive. Then there are the stories which get you hooked.
Speaking of stories, the stories of the Norsemen have always piqued my interest, even as a child. If you have similar preferences, then here’s a little something to spice up your day: Sagas of the Northmen: A Viking Comic Anthology.
This comic anthology celebrates the “bold lives and heroic deeds of the Norse men and women of the Viking Age”.
Honestly, they got me at Viking.
In the tradition of the medieval Icelandic Sagas, the comic anthology “features tales about (seemingly) ordinary men and women finding themselves in extraordinary circumstances. The subject matter explored in this inaugural volume is expansive and includes stand-alone tales about the infamous raid on Lindisfarne, Leif Erikson, the Icelandic justice system, the Viking funeral ritual, the Varangian Guard, the Viking warrior ethos and Freydis Eiriksdottir’s expedition to North America”.
Not only do you get some of the most adventurous tales ever told, but you get a feast for the eyes as well.
That’s just the cover, and there’s more to enjoy inside. The standalone tales have different creatives behind them, and the artwork is something to behold as well.
