Therapeutic Game “Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector” Is a Refreshing Break From the Usual Mobile Game

Mobile games are big these days. Very big.

Just look at this list of highest grossing iOS apps as of March 2016. The numbers are in US Dollars – daily revenue.

  1. Game of War – Fire Age: 1,553,803
  2. Clash of Clans: 1,212,012
  3. Mobile Strike: 827,371
  4. Candy Crush Saga: 423,708
  5. DoubleDown Casino: 309,195

Astounding, isn’t it?

Yet these numbers are indicative of just how many people get addicted to mobile games that they are willing to make in-app purchases that are significant costs. I have heard of people who play Game of War who are up to $30,000 in…because of whatever psychology there is behind enticing people to make in-app purchases.

If you think about it – and I have. A lot. What’s happening is scary.

I love games just as much as the next person, but spending even a dollar on an in-app purchase is difficult for me. But maybe it’s just me.

However, with practically every game out there requiring in-app purchases, is there any other option?

Here comes the good news: Yes! There are games that don’t have in-app purchases or don’t let in-app purchases get in the way of playing (that’s the kind I like most – it gives you the option of buying if you want more, but it gives you the freedom of playing without spending if you don’t want to).

If you’re looking for something totally different from the game culture, there’s this therapeutic game called “Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector”. Now, I can see how it may not work for people who are averse to cats, but its simplicity and lack of demand from the player may be enough to attract any person.

How do you play it?

There are only two things to it:

  1. Place playthings in your yard.
  2. Wait for cats to come and visit.

The developers describe the gameplay as:

Attract cats with food and then watch them romp with your toys! More than 40 varieties of cats—white and black, tabby and calico—might stop by. Rare cats are rumored to roam the neighborhood too, but you’ll need particular items to entice those elusive felines. Each visitor is logged in your Catbook. Become a master kitty collector and fill it up!

You can even make albums of your cat photos, or save them to your device and use them as wallpaper!”

It may seem boring, but if you think about it, it is a therapeutic game. You don’t have the pressure of building up troops, making sure other empires don’t burn yours, and all the stuff that goes on in the most popular games today.

I’m not saying that those games aren’t fun, but if you’re looking for something refreshing and non-demanding, “Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector” may be the game for you.

Oh, and if you’ve secretly wanting to be a cat lady but have been afraid of what your friends would say, this is your chance!
